Trend following
Trend following has proven to be an effective system over the years, even in different market conditions, such as a pandemic-ridden market (COVID Panic 2020), Tech Bubble Burst (2000’s), Global Financial Crisis (2008) and the bull market from 2009 – 2020. Trend following has worked in the past, excels today and will perform into the future for the simple reason: trends exist and they can be traded for profit. We do not resort to leverage in this strategy and hence trend following is a long only strategy within the Plus91 high expectancy trading strategy suite.
Contra Trade
Contra Trade moves against the broader trend of the market. Again in this basket, we do not resort to leverage and hence this too is a long only strategy. Contra trend will look to buy beaten down stocks with a high risk to reward ratio with tight stop-losses. This forms a crucial part of the trading strategy it has a strong negative correlation with the overall portfolio.
Corporate Actions
Time and again corporate actions provide opportunities to profit due to special situations. Corporate actions include Stock buybacks, Merger & acquisition, de-mergers and stock splits. Although these trades are often smaller in size, they provide a very profit expectancy.
Growth & Mispricing
There are significant opportunities when there is a new information which is not priced in the stock. These include; capital expansions, new order wins, potential margin expansions, significant de-leveraging of books, change in business profile, change in management, result announcement and other such factors. These announcements are often priced in with a lag or when the realization of such an action is visible on company’s financial statements. This strategy allows investors to have an exposure to such investments before the change in reflected in the price of the stock.
